✄ Lesson 1: Basics of Photography

Post by Beloved♥ on Sat Apr 09, 2016 12:13 am

✄ Lesson 1: Basics
[I'm making this as simple as possible ^-^]

There are 3 components that are significantly important when learning photography for the first time:
➀ Shutter speed ➁ Aperture ➂ ISO

-

➀ Shutter speed

Shutter speed is the length of time for which the shutter opens at a given setting. Basically it is how fast/slow it takes for the shutter to capture your image. For example, if you want to take a picture of a fast-moving subject (like a runner), your best bet is to set your shutter speed at a high range like 1/500 of a second. That way, your subject will not look blurry, but crisp! Slow shutter speeds like 1/30 of a second will produce images that are blurred like this. Shutter speed is measured in fraction of seconds.

➁ Aperture & depth of field

Aperture is the space where light enters into the lens and into the body of your camera. The larger the aperture, the more light that enters the lens. Aperture is measured in f-stops. When identifying large apertures from small apertures, the values are not as they seem. For example, an f-stop of f2.8 would be a large aperture since it exposes more light than a f-stop of f22, which would be a smaller aperture. Here is an example of an image with a large aperture/small f-stop rate. Here is an example of an image with a small aperture/large f-stop rate. As you can see, the image with a large aperture(bird) has its subject in focus, while the image with a small aperture(landscape) had the whole image in focus. When taking pictures of landscapes and such, I suggest using a smaller aperture. When taking pictures of subjects close-up, I suggest using a large aperture.

In context to aperture, 'depth of field' applies to the topic of aperture. 'Depth of field' is the area where your image appears to be sharp or where your subject is focused at. Large apertures produce images with a shallow depth of field, most often leaving the background in a bokeh effect. Smaller apertures produces images with a larger depth of field, leaving a sharp image of your subject and it's background.

➂ ISO

ISO level of sensitivity of your camera to available light. High ISO's like ISO 6400, are used more in night situations where there is hardly any light. Unfortunately higher ISO's produce more noise in your images, in other words this grainy stuff. The more noise, the less quality the image has. Low ISO's like ISO 100 produce images with hardly any noise, leaving a better quality image.

useful chart to apply to this lesson:

If you have any questions or comments, please post down below! Bunny #2  I started learning these basics since last friday (April 1st) , so correct me if I say something wrong! Thanks and I hope you enjoyed this lesson~ ^^

➳ Getting the perfect angles ✈ korea version

Post by Beloved♥ on Sat Oct 15, 2016 7:49 pm

➳ Getting the perfect angles ✈ korea version

‹ A N G L E S

Long time no see guys! How have you guys been? For me, I've learned some photography skills during my trip to korea this summer, most specifically on how to find the right angles!--Thanks to my uncle who is a photographer! Wink Here's some tips I learned from my real-life experience~

First of all, there are different types of angles you can use for your subject, in regards to perspective.

 ➊ Food

TIP #1: Don't take pictures of food on it's side like this , instead take it from on top or slightly angled from the top of the object :

Scenery / Things in general

I always took my pictures in a horizontal angle, yet when my uncle looked through my pictures, he told me that taking pictures vertically helps!

TIP#2: Take pictures vertically and not just horizontally (in other words, capture your subject in an angle that is most fitting)

see the difference?

People / animals / other

Lastly, don't limit yourself with certain angles! Experiment with your camera and see how things look!
You can take pictures:
up-close / faraway
wide angle view
top angle view
rotated angle view
etc..
The ideas are endless! So keep trying, while using perspective and your own unique ideas in capturing the moment itself! Very Happy
